INCALCITRANOUS REX

THE POP-ART SCI-FI EPIC INCALCITRANOUS REX

ALL YOU WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT REX BUT WERE AFRAID TO ASK...

This film is my response to the often sterile CG industry, which forbids evidence of the human hand and leaves no disbelief to be suspended.

Funnier, cheaper & shorter than Prometheus, it's the unlikely:  INCALCITRANOUS REX

In case you weren't sure... 'Incalcitrant' refers to someone who is resistant to authority. (Fittingly enough, you won't find it in the dictionary, as it is listed under 'Recalcitrant' - but most people don't say that anymore).

This film was made with the collaboration of the world's greatest OP-1 player, incredible animator, good friend and general genius of sickeningly brilliant talents, Andreas Paleologos, aka: Cuckoo. You can see more of Cuckoo here: http://www.palegolas.se/ - that link is most definitely worth your time. (Check out the Star Wars Sax video - it's terrific).

HIROSHIMA ANIMATION FESTIVAL 2012

created by Matt Willis-Jones

Rex was screened at the 2012 Hiroshima Animation Festival
Something I'm very happy about  - especially as this had been my goal for the project. One I never thought we'd reach, to be honest. Well done Rex! And thanks to all involved, especially to John Nordahl and his photo studio, which was the setting for Rex's travels.

ON SET WITH THE ALIENS

INDIEGOGO

Rex didn't cost very much to make. Everyone (musicians, animators, lighting) worked for free. There were some costs involved - a couple of bus tickets and admission to the science museum... the occasional prop purchases... but otherwise the biggest chunk of cash was spent on DVD costs, USB sticks, festival entry fees and postage. And that money came from our very generous Indiegogo donators who are immortalised in the credits. They are: Adam Rowland, Dagfinn Skoglund, John-Erling Holmenes Fredriksen, Chris Simmons and Scott Byrnside. Thank you all once again! :)

It's true we were hoping to raise more money from our Indiegogo campaign - as we had some rather large bills - and I had hoped to be able to compensate all who had donated their time and talents to the production, but perhaps our goal of 7,000 dollars was a bit high !!!

Here is a 3 min montage of the (largely unsuccessful) fundraising videos from last year - I saw them again recently and they made me giggle, so here you go :)

MERCHANDISE

Yes! That's right! Soon you can buy your very own Rex T-Shirts, Mini UFO's and some nifty enamel badges!

Check out this happy customer!
He's actually much happier than he looks, honest.

THE PAST

LONG AGO, IN A STUDIO FAR FAR AWAY...
In 2001 I was working at an animation studio in London. We were all given 31 days notice as the client went bankrupt. During those 31 days we would turn up to work, throw our bags under our desks and head to the pub. It was a magical time - but I bemoaned the fact I was  having to find a new job - I'd only had that one for 3 months!  I was all too aware I was the only one who didn't have a fancy showreel with explosions and dinosaurs on it. Cue: lightbulb moment.

It was at this studio I met the brilliant Martin Clapp  (who recently directed the stereoscopic stop motion animation 'The Flying Machine', celebrating Chopin - as well as directing this 30 min film he also designed the flying machine itself - a fantastic creation.)

Martin and I teamed up and set about passionately making DINOMIGHT! in our spare time - mostly in the summer of 2002. I wrote directed and edited, Martin designed the characters, built the models and animated etc. The result, although totally kick-ass, never made it beyond the stage of animatic. Perhaps one day we'll get the money to make it properly. Regardless, what little of the project made it through to final render became part of INCALCITRANOUS REX. And here it is in all its animatic glory :)

DINOMIGHT!

I should mention that the music for DINOMIGHT! was made for the film by GOD THE BAND, written by New York based Matt Glasson (another genius, who has recently written directed and starred in the feature film 'Love Stalker' - check out the trailer and more here: http://www.lovestalker.com/ )

Here's the album cover artwork I made for GOD THE BAND's first album, back in 1999.
Moi? Psychedelic?

THE FUTURE

Who knows what the future brings... A web series of 90 sec episodes? Another 15 min movie? Or nothing at all? We can only find out ... until then ... thanks for watching and reading this far, and remember: It doesn't matter where you go, they're all idiots!
