SKEPTO FILM FESTIVAL

And.... You're back in the room. Yes, I'm back in Oslo - now available in black and white. As if it wasn't enough to be plunged back into the cold, Oslo was looking particularly drab upon my return from colourful sexy Sardinia.

Oh Cagliari, how we miss you -  your streets filled with stylish old men wearing suits so cool it makes aging seem like a good idea and women who, for those not skilled at multitasking, make walking in a straight line quite challenging.

Eating Octopus every day...  perfect coffee wherever you go - even the painstakingly slow coffee machine in the hostel, which was obviously pumping the dark liquid up from deep beneath the Earth's surface, made a decent espresso. The food was quite fantastic. The wine... the sun... the people...

We had a great time.

So ... let's see... I've covered the sunny weather... the octopus... the stylish inhabitants... the coffee.... what else? Oh yes -

And I also forgot to mention the local beer.

The 4th Skepto International Film Festival and... Wow. It was fantastic. Enough to make you spill gelato on your pants. And it wasn't just the films that made it a great festival - it was also the people that made the personality of the event.

Talking of people... let's introduce ourselves...

From Left: Peter Tøjlsen ('The Manager'), me,  and Pete Rycroft (the composer) posing like it's 1988...

and here's one with Jørn-Bjørn Fuller-Gee ('Phil') flanked by Pete and Peter. Evidently still in 1988...

Oh yeah.

We had two films playing at Skepto: 'A Short Film on Democracy', which had its international premiere, and 'A Short Film on Conformity', which won a 'Special Mention' prize!

It was great for the festival to recognise and appreciate us and our film, and I was very touched. In fact, when handed what was essentially a piece of paper with my name spelt correctly, I became speechless.

Prior to that rare event, I executed a unique method of getting on stage to receive the award - which led one magazine to liken me to Roberto Benigni picking up his Oscar. ... and I can't say I'm going to complain about that comparison! :)

Yeah we were quite chuffed with this. Considering that a year before we had made the film for absolutely nothing in one weekend - not having any expectations or goals of anything other than making the damn thing... we enjoyed this moment. :)

All in all it was an amazing blur of a time. We met lots of other wonderful filmmakers with wonderful films, saw some works of intimidatingly brilliance, and were treated like stars. Oh yes and we got shown on Italian TV - at about 16.24 mins in ;)

Of all the varied films - one that got a tremendous audience reaction was Corrado Ravazzini's 'Perfetto' .... it has a great ending - and seeing as I can't come up with a better ending for this blog entry - I'm going to steal it ;)

check it out here (English subtitles)   you have to type in the password 'Perfe' - oh go on! it's not that difficult...

In other news... at the start of June, 'A Short Film on Democracy' will screen at the Detmold festival in Germany, and at same time 'A Short Film on Conformity' is heading to New York for the Hoboken festival. More prizes and special mentions to come? We'll see. Until then... Ciao!
